The Law of Pairs

1758. The Seven Years’ War was in full swing. The Russians captured East Prussia relatively easily, inflicting a series of defeats on Emperor Frederick. The headquarters of the active army commanded by Elizabeth Petrovna’s favorite, Prince Karl of Saxony, moved into occupied Königsberg. In Königsberg itself, the intelligence services of the Secret Chancellery, led by the adviser Lyadashchev, set up a risky game against the English resident Sakuromozо by deciding to use the Princess Repninskaya for it—falsely accused of an attempt to poison the Empress.

Prince Nikita Olenyev, appointed guardian of Repninskaya, sets out to find her and is unwillingly drawn into a struggle between intelligence services. And, of course, his loyal friends—cadets (garde-marines)—come to his aid: lieutenant Alexander Belov and captain Alexey Korsak.
