“Sholom-aleykhem” literally translates as “Peace be with you!”—the pseudonym of Solomon Naumovich Rabinovich, a writer known as a beacon of Jewish literature. It was he who, among the first, managed to describe the life and traditions of Jews, emphasizing the wisdom and sense of humor of this people. Works by Sholom-Aleykhem have been translated into dozens of languages around the world. Along with Mark Twain and Anton Pavlovich Chekhov, he has been recognized by UNESCO as one of the greatest world literature humorists.
