Li Xuelian is married to Qin Yuhе and expecting a second child. At first glance, it should be a reason for happiness—but in China’s era of strict birth-policy, it becomes a problem: the family is allowed only one child. To bypass the ban, the couple decide to formally divorce before their daughter is born, and then register the marriage again. But the scheme collapses: Qin Yuhе really marries another woman and humiliates the former one by comparing her to Pan Jinlian, the infamous seductress from a seventeenth-century novel. Consumed by rage, Li Xuelian starts fighting the officials to get the divorce declared fake. Will she be able to achieve justice and take revenge?
