The Ascending. Beginning

Holt Cook was not supposed to become a Rider and fly across the sky riding a dragon. He faithfully served the Order of Craig, working in the kitchen. That was until he learned a terrible secret: dragons can’t tolerate weakness among their own kind and kill those they consider defective. Driven by pity and compassion, Holt saves an egg from which a blind dragon will hatch—and vows to protect it. But the Riders are in danger. They’re being killed. Hordes of undead roam the land, spreading disease and leaving ruin behind them. A traitor is nearby, but hiding in the shadows… Holt has only one chance to survive: he must awaken the mysterious power of his dragon. This energy will help him tip the balance in the upcoming battles and prove to the world that he deserves to be a Rider.
