Vesta

Vesta Kerini, living in a small remote village, for many years was in love with the boy next door, Grin, and patiently waited for his marriage proposal. And then Grin came courting. But not her. In shattered feelings, Vesta fled to sleep in the forest, not knowing that in the morning she would return to an enemy-ravaged village—with burned houses and murdered relatives. Overcome with grief, she meets an old hermit woman hiding in the thicket, who convinces her: “I will send you through a secret door into another world. You will live there for a year, and then return the day before the tragedy, and you will fix everything.” How could she refuse? How could she not fix it? And so Vesta steps through the threshold into the unfamiliar World of Levels—a distant place from her own, primitive world, filled with possibilities and technologies. She doesn’t care where she will spend the next three hundred sixty-five days—she’ll manage, because the goal is worth it. But the old woman ordered Vesta to die on a very specific date. Which means that to be sure, she will have to hire a killer. But what if the killer—startled that the client “ordered herself”—begins to ask too many questions?
