“In the Kingdom of Ash and Grief” is a tender story of war, love, and the possibility of starting over.
American pilot Miki led a simple life: he fought for his country, followed orders from commanders, dreaming of returning home.
His death was just as simple. In the summer of 1945, his plane crashed on Japanese territory.
Yet his spirit remained wandering the streets of that very city, over which he had recently dropped evacuation leaflets. In this city, its residents—despite being worn down by war—continue to love and believe. Here live single mother Kiyomi and her daughter Ai, and watching them, Miki discovers new emotions. Here, people like him make him reconsider whether his superiors’ decisions were truly right.
This city is Hiroshima.
