In the Wilds of Manchuria

This book is the fruit of the author’s personal observations, experiences, and impressions gathered during his long wandering through the mountains and forests of Manchuria. It only slightly lifts the curtain over a world that remains hidden from the eyes of cultured people—an intriguing world full of mysterious romance and charm. This now fading world has survived in all its untouched integrity where untouched by the human hand stand primeval forests and stretch for hundreds of kilometers wild deserts.

With the arrival of culture in the region, the areas of these forests shrink and the beautiful pristine nature disappears—along with it, the original world that is now a remnant of the most ancient eras of human history.

Nikolai Apollonovich Baykov (November 29 (December 11) 1872, Kyiv — May 6, 1958, Brisbane, Australia) was a military man, writer, and naturalist. N. Baykov authored over 300 works; his name became internationally known. He is considered the leading specialist on Manchurian tigers; Nikolai Baykov’s works have been translated into many European and Eastern languages.
