Description
The book “Utopia,” which brought fame to Thomas More, contains a description of an ideal social system on the fantastic island of Utopia (Greek, literally “Nigdonia”—a place that doesn’t exist; the word invented by More later became a household name). For the first time in human history, More portrayed a society in which private (and even personal) property was abolished and not only equality of consumption was introduced (as in early Christian communities), but also production and everyday life were collectivized.
