“Lesha, they told me you’ve been getting involved with racketeers,” I finally manage to say what’s been worrying me for almost the whole day.
“And you believed them?”
“I don’t believe anyone except you. I know what you’ll say—you’ll tell the truth, right?”
“Yes, I’m already telling you, Love,” he says. “I work on a construction site, and at night I unload freight cars. I want to move you to the capital as soon as possible. Maybe you should go study—get a profession and work a normal job.”
I never doubted my beloved. I believed every word he said. Even when people told me he’d turned to crime, I still doubted it. And when they brought me the terrible news, I still thought they were lying to me.
After all, my Lesha couldn’t become such a person! I paid dearly for my trust, and I’d already said goodbye to my past.
But then it caught up with me at the very worst moment.
