Tessa Miyata Is Not a Hero

Tessa Miyata is a walking magnet for trouble. Even as a child, she realized she had an incredible gift—one that became a curse. Tessa can see ghosts. Because of this ability, she has absolutely no friends, and at school they even call her a crazy weirdo. To support her granddaughter, her grandmother sends Tessa and her two older sisters to relatives in Japan for the summer. But the joy of the trip quickly disappears, because Tessa has to spend all her time in the company of the neighbor boy, Jin, who can’t stand her. And to make matters worse, her first trip to Tokyo turns into a disaster: due to Tessa’s oversight, an ancient family heirloom shatters, and the enraged spirit of the samurai Taira Masakado is set free. Now Tessa and Jin—as well as their new acquaintance, the kitsune Kita—must stop the samurai’s spirit before it destroys Tokyo.
