Tarzan of the Apes by Edgar Rice Burroughs is the first novel in the adventure series about Tarzan, the king of the jungle. Lord and Lady Greystoke are passengers on a ship bound for Africa. But the vessel is seized by mutineers, and although the sailor Binns helps them escape, they are left stranded on the shore of a tropical island. Shortly after the death of his parents, their infant son is adopted by an ape named Kala and raised as her own child.
