The 1930s. A shadow of the Gulag hangs over the young Soviet state. Grigory Larionov is the head of a camp post. Feelings begin to grow between him and Irina Aleksandrova, who was exiled under Article 58. However, their relationship is complicated not only by memories of Larionov’s first love, but also by Irina’s conviction that her chosen one is no better than the executioners who pushed innocent people into the camps. Now they must walk the razor’s edge: save as many human lives as possible, give people some purpose, and not break themselves. Will they manage?
