Koonen Alisa Georgievna is a Russian Soviet tragic actress, wife of the legendary director and founder of the Moscow Chamber Theatre Alexander Tairov.

In the Moscow theatrical firmament of the 1920s–1940s, Alisa Georgievna Koonen was one of the brightest stars. Even among the most famous theatrical celebrities, she remained unique—unlike anyone, incomparable. In this remarkable Russian tragic actress, however, there wasn’t a drop of Russian blood. Until 1934 she remained a Belgian subject, but throughout her life—and all her talent—she gave to the Russian theatre. A favorite student of Stanislavsky, she became the first performer of leading roles in many of his productions…

In a book of memoirs titled "Pages of Life," she told about her work in the theatre. In the project "Once Upon a Time in History," you will hear her here in the reading by Lyudmila Titova.
