Aleksey Nikolayevich Tolstoy is a Russian Soviet writer and public figure. His pen has produced many well-known works: from “The Adventures of Buratino,” beloved by children, to “Aelita” and “The Hyperboloid of Engineer Garin,” cult classics for science-fiction fans. Enormous print runs, dozens of film adaptations, and three Stalin Prizes. And yet, despite universal recognition, his life—like the fates of his characters—was full of twists and sudden changes. But in difficult times and in happy days alike, Tolstoy never lost his rare gift for words—rightfully taking his place among the greatest Russian authors of the 20th century.
