After the sudden death of his fellow soldier, Garrett is forced to become one of the deceased’s executors of his estate—and, in this capacity, must travel to Cantard, where he had hoped never to go again, with a seemingly simple mission: to inform his friend’s former lover that she has become the inheritor.
Garrett’s Adventures is a series of books by Glen Cook about private detective Garrett. The novels are written in a noir style; they contain elements of both adventure and detective fiction, as well as plenty of dialogue-based humor. Garrett’s adventures take place in an original fantasy world, largely in his home city—Tanfere, located in the kingdom of Carenta. These kingdoms are inhabited by elves, vampires, centaurs, trolls, gods, wizards, sorcerers, and many other creatures. A distinctive feature of the magic in this world is that when casting spells, silver must be spent—so the politics of the world of power is essentially intrigue and struggle for sources of replenishing the treasury with silver.
Garrett’s Adventures: a world of mystery and danger, where every clue can be the beginning of a long chain of consequences.
