All religions and myths contain a legend about a tree at the center of the world. Scandinavian god Odin nailed himself to its trunk to learn the magical runes; Buddha Shakyamuni received a divine revelation beneath its branches. It is believed that Jesus’s cross is also a symbol of the world tree—just as the fir tree we place in the center of our apartment on New Year’s is. But does the tree really exist? If it does, where can it be found?
These questions hold no interest for Alena Ovchinnikova, a Moscow translator and rock climber. An adventurer and seeker of adventures, she now travels rarely and lives a quiet life. But one day, when the capital sinks into darkness, the girl is kidnapped.
She ends up in a mountain valley where there is no civilization; the inhabitants speak ancient Sanskrit and have seen a living Shiva. The kidnappers need Alena’s knowledge to obtain yet another legend of the world tree. Only if Alena gets tangled in the story will she figure everything out herself. And she will find much more than she could possibly imagine…
