Once, a whale came out of the sea. More precisely, a whalefish. Long ago, Murochka saved the ship’s kitten Murzik from the paws of the ship rats, who had thrown the kitten overboard. The whalefish thought that the wet kitten looked like a whale cub. And now Murochka doesn’t know whether she is a cat or Murzik is a whale cub. To find out who she really is—and to find Murzik—Murochka goes to the city of Mur-Murmansk, but she gets off course and ends up in the city of Nakhodka. On the shore, she meets a seagull, Day-Day, who considers herself a relative of Chinese Tea. Day-Day helps Murochka build a scooter, and together the friends head for the port—to look for Murzik. For Murochka, this isn’t just a walk through the city; it’s an exciting journey full of new discoveries, because this is the whalefish’s first time on land. This is a story about friendship: Murochka was looking for herself, and found friends. And that’s the most important thing! Because sometimes even a big whale can feel very lonely in the vast, many-fish ocean.
