The thoughts of Mikhail Kutuzov set out in this treatise became one of the foundations of his triumph over the army of Napoleon, which was considered invincible.
Field Marshal M. I. Kutuzov is well known not only in Russia, but far beyond it. He began his service at the age of nineteen and remained faithful to the Fatherland until his last days, repeatedly winning victories over the enemy in battles.
This edition includes the treatise “Notes on Infantry Service in General and on Jäger Service in Particular”—a vivid example of the commander’s military and theoretical legacy, prepared in 1786 for battalion commanders. In it, Kutuzov detailed the key principles of infantry and jäger service.
The положения he developed were never only theory: he consistently put them into practice, which ultimately helped him achieve victory over Napoleon’s troops.
