Description
In almost all of Alexander Kuprin’s works, one can clearly feel the presence of an ideal, romantic beginning—this is evident both in the plots and in the manifestations of his heroes’ characters, as well as in the writer’s gift to see in people a striving toward the spiritual in love, creativity, and kindness. The works selected for radio interpretations belong precisely to this line. They were written in different periods of the author’s career, but regardless of the proposed plots, they share humanism and the author’s life-affirming position. Kuprin’s idealism appears in the vivid artistic depiction of the heroes of the novella «How I Became an Actor», «The One-Armed Commandant», «A Picture», and many other stories.
The narration in Kuprin’s works is usually very visual and often simply, without being obtrusive, turns to complex problems of human existence—reflections on love and hatred, and on human strength and weakness.
