“The Polar Circle” is a new novel by the well-known Swedish writer Liza Marklund, written in the genre of a psychological thriller.
The action takes place in a small town in the very north of Sweden. Five young girls meet in a book club to discuss their favorite books. However, the tension keeps growing, because all of the girls are in love with one boy named Viking. After another conflict, one of them disappears without a trace. Forty years later, she is found murdered, and the four women come together again.
Liza Marklund (born 1962) became famous for a series of crime novels about journalist Annika Bengtzon. They were translated into thirty languages and sold in million-copy runs. In Russian, novels such as “The Last Will of Nobel,” “A Place in the Sun,” “The Red Wolf,” “Prime Time,” and others were published. In 2010, Liza Marklund together with the American writer James Patterson wrote the novel “Killer Instinct,” which topped the New York Times bestseller list. In 2020, during the pandemic, Marklund began writing a trilogy, the first book of which—“The Polar Circle”—you are holding in your hands.
