An adventurous story about the doings of Semyon Ivanovich Nevzorov. He lived on Meshchanskaya Street, worked in a road office, received a modest salary, and once a week he met his lover, Knopka. He was completely unremarkable. Reading news about the nobility in the “Petersburg Gazette,” all his dreams were about social soirees and balls. He would have lived his dull life like that if not for a fortune-teller’s prediction about great adventures.
Nevzorov believed the prediction. And when his friends teased him, he told them that he would become famous and wealthy. The time of big changes begins. The February Revolution—“the wind of history”—blows Nevzorov out of his home and sends him wandering.
