Oleg Volkov is a Russian writer, a descendant of an ancient noble family, who spent almost three decades in Stalin’s camps on fabricated charges. In his personal memoirs, “Diving into Darkness,” he described the terrible conditions in which people had to survive and the fates of those who perished in the Gulag. “Diving into Darkness” was awarded the State Prize of Russia, the Pushkin Prize of the Alfred Töpfer Foundation, and other awards.
