Description
In 1920, Hannibal comes to Russia and falls in love with Russian culture and a circus performer, Varenka. He takes her to Denmark, builds a house for her, and dreams of listening to Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev together with her. But Varenka doesn’t love music—besides, they somehow can’t find a common language. After all, in her life there was supposed to be an elephant, but she ended up with a hippopotamus that ate her beloved (though that’s a completely different story).

Their daughter, Hannibal and Varenka’s, rumored to have extrasensory abilities, falls in love with a pigeon tamer! And their grandchildren—twins—choose a creative profession: Esther becomes an artist, and Olga becomes an opera diva. Meanwhile, their older twin sister, Philippa, is concerned with becoming the first woman cosmonaut before illness takes her life.

“Song of Songs on Palermo Street” is an uplifting novel about family, love, and courage—the courage to go on living and, after loss, still give yourself a chance at new happiness.
