The main trilogy "Foundation, Foundation and Empire, Second Foundation" is part of the "Foundation" cycle.
The "Foundation" cycle (Academy) is included in the "Galactic History" cycle.
The events of the first part of the trilogy `Foundation` unfold in a distant future, when the planets of millions of star systems of the Galaxy are inhabited. The mathematician and psychohistorian Hari Seldon predicts the collapse and rebirth—after many years—of an indestructible Galactic Empire. To mitigate the consequences of the catastrophe, he develops a project to create a Foundation that is to become the center of the birth of a new Empire…
The second volume of the trilogy "Foundation and Empire".
The Galactic Empire was approaching its collapse. Psychohistorian Hari Seldon foresaw this and in advance created two Foundations—two special scientific centers—bringing together the best, young, and strong people so that these centers would grow, develop, and grow stronger. The worlds where they are located were chosen by Seldon with regard to time and surrounding conditions. In the future, according to precise mathematical calculations, both Foundations will become isolated from galactic civilization and will develop into the beginnings of the Second Galactic Empire. After learning this, the imperial general Bel Riose decides to capture the First Foundation.
The Second Foundation is an organization of psychoanalyst scientists who inhabit the fringes of the Galaxy’s planet, acting secretly (according to the Seldon plan) for several hundred years. The Galactic Empire collapsed. The dangerous mutant Mool began to lay claim to galactic supremacy. This novel is about the struggle of a world of psychologists—known throughout the Galaxy as the Second Foundation—with the mutant at first, and then with the First Foundation—the world of physicist scientists.
