About Shponka and Chmonka

Mar’ia Ivanovna lived on the edge of a small village in a small house with a modest garden and, as she could, took care of animals. So it’s no surprise that soon she got a new dachshund, Shpon’ka.

Life spun around her beloved dog—chores didn’t leave Mar’ia Ivanovna even a thought for тоска (sad longing). A kennel needed to be set up, the dog’s ration had to be cut down, then it was time to take care of the pet with external grooming. And besides, the dachshund has a unique character: it knows how to rejoice, how to feel offended, and—most of all—how to love its mistress.

So one beautiful day Mar’ia Ivanovna found herself a new pet—a lapdog, Chmon’ka—Shpon’ka’s faithful friend. The two dogs slept together in the kennel at night and chose what to do during the day. Even helped a forest resident: they took part in the fate of a hare.
