Norwegian Fairy Tales

8 hrs. 22 min.
Description
Norwegian legends carry us into a land of harsh fjords, gloomy thickets, and snow-covered peaks, where the breath of ancient Scandinavia is felt everywhere. On these pages you’ll meet mountain trolls—better not to mess with them—and sensible princesses, whose beauty goes hand in hand with intelligence. Here an inconspicuous shepherd can outdo a giant, and a clever little boy can outwit even the devil and come out victorious.

The collection was published in the 19th century by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe—friends from Christiania (today’s Oslo) who dedicated themselves to recording folk legends. In Norwegian culture, their role is just as significant as that of the Grimm brothers for the German fairy-tale tradition.
