In search of the reason behind what’s happening in Tare, the elf Nèo Ramierly (also known as the bard Roman Yasny) and Duke Rene Arroy are forced to bring back memories of a distant past—from the Great Exodus from Tare of the gods, to the reign of the first Volings on the throne of Arcia. The truth turns out to be frightening, and ancient prophecies begin to come true.
The novel prevents the arrival of the child of the “Dark Star” (Gerika Godoya) into the world, but that only halts the threat. Tare’s enemies act with both magic and politics; those who can stand against them die, and Rene and Roman are left to rely only on themselves, on Gerika—who has had some changes—and on ordinary people of Tare. What can they oppose to Mikhai Godoya and his strange allies?
