The Minor. Audio Play

The Minor. Audio Play

2 hrs. 26 min.
Description
Denis Fonvizin is an outstanding Russian playwright of the second half of the 18th century. His comedy “The Minor” is still studied in school literature classes as an example of the Catherine-era writing. The play, written according to the canons of classicism, is fairly straightforward, and the characters of its heroes are woven entirely from either vices or virtues. The work ridicules the manners of provincial landed gentry and the low level of their spiritual culture and education. Using the example of the landlady Prostakova and her son Mitrofanushka, Fonvizin offers a sharp satire against this class. The proposed audio play based on the famous play is produced with the modern generation in mind: many outdated concepts are explained before each act by a special “Guide to the 18th century” in words understandable to young listeners. And, in the spirit of the comedy, with a portion of humor.
