The current coronavirus situation, which in many ways has brought the population of developed prosperous countries on par with residents of developing nations, is presented allegorically—as an episode of natural selection. Trouble has come to Earth, and the era of all-powerful “overseas” dinosaurs is over. But why didn’t they survive, and we did instead—modest, not always well-fed, not the strongest and richest—but warm-blooded mammals united by their own patriotic spirit?
