Is it easy to be a first lady?
Every step, every gesture, every word of Isolde is an occasion for gossip. And it wouldn’t be so bad if it were limited to talk—but yellow leaflets, despite all Magnus Doherty’s efforts, have flooded the City. People believe lies, as well as calls for freedom, equality, and rebellion. Kaia tries to avoid bloodshed, but the Council is too confident in its own invulnerability and refuses to make concessions. The shadow is still at large. And the Lord Chancellor has declared war as well, clearly intending to drive Isolde out of the Castle and ready to use any means.
So what remains for the first lady?
Hold out. And accept the rules of a new game.
And, in the process, host a Winter Ball and two utterly strange weddings.
