A married couple, Chris and Valerie, are vacationing at a hotel in “Paradise City,” the city of millionaires. A year and a half earlier, Chris was involved in a car accident and has been slightly out of his mind ever since. The millionaire’s daughter, Val, provides her husband with comfort and peace—and waits until Chris comes to himself. One day, Chris disappears from the hotel, and the police find him wandering along the road only the next day. And around the same time, in a cheap motel, they find the body of a prostitute brutally stabbed.

Police captain Terrell doesn’t connect the millionaire’s son-in-law with this murder. But private detectives do—despite themselves—and they wouldn’t mind taking advantage of Valerie.
