The cursed year of 1993. The old Marshal of the Soviet Union dies in disgrace, consumed by despair at his own helplessness—his life’s work has been handed over and trampled by the enemies of the people; his homeland has been looted and, in effect, occupied by new Vlasovites—traitors sit in the Kremlin… But as a reward for service to the Motherland, fate gives the veteran yet another chance: it resurrects him in Stalin’s USSR. Only he wakes up in the body of Marshal Tukhachevsky!
Can a convinced Stalinist strangle the soul of a traitor, fully taking hold of the collective consciousness? How can he overcome Stalin’s contempt for the “red Bonaparte” and earn the Leader’s trust? Will he be able to expose a Trotskyist conspiracy and complete the rearmament of the Red Army ahead of schedule? Is he ready to go to the Spanish War as a simple kompolk—so that in the field he can test new military equipment and the strategy of a deep operation (“a red blitzkrieg”)? Can one man change the course of history so that Marshal Tukhachevsky doesn’t die like a dog in a firing-squad basement, but becomes Stalin’s closest comrade and the Marshal of Victory?
