The first novel of the Norwegian writer Juhan Borgen’s trilogy, written in 1955. The first book describes the formation of the character of the main hero, Wilfred Sagen, born in the early 20th century into a wealthy bourgeois family. The next two novels—“Dark Waters” (Norw. De mørke kilder, 1956) and “Now He Can’t Get Away” (Norw. Vi har ham nå, 1957)—depict events in the life of the main hero and of the Norwegian people during the First and Second World Wars.
The novel has been translated into many foreign languages, including Russian (translator Yu. Ya. Yakhni na) and the languages of the Baltic peoples.
