Description
Zurich, 1826. Young Rudolf scrapes together his last pennies to buy medicine for his sick mother. A merciful apothecary gives him an unusual “tonic” — a bitter-sweet treat, which they call chocolate.
Almost a miracle happens: his mother begins to recover, and the boy finds his goal—to devote himself to the confectionery trade and someday make it possible to produce chocolate in large quantities. But the path to his dream turns out not to be easy: his father, a supporter of old ways, refuses to change anything in the family shop; his beloved girl is preparing to marry someone else; ahead are expenses, obstacles, and long roads.
But entrepreneurship is always a risk. And the ending of this story is known: Rudolf Sprüngli becomes that very visionary who laid the foundation for the company “Lindt and Sprüngli,” whose name people still know today.
