The Far North is a zone of perpetual frost—nothing living lives in its depths. But somehow, from a hole in the ground near a Khanty cemetery, strange sounds are heard. Sometimes they sound like the cries of abandoned babies, sometimes like the laughter of crazed madmen, and sometimes a long, vicious howl drifts from deep inside the icy underground dungeon. Rumors among local people speak of creatures with bird bodies and human faces that live in an abandoned frost pit near an empty settlement of geologists. But no one would ever think to go there and check whether that’s true. One day, Tilda descends into the cold, dark world—full of ominous secrets kept there for centuries.
