Lecture: "Leonid Brezhnev"

Leonid Brezhnev is a figure that sparks many discussions and contradictions. How can he be characterized? Was he a skillful strategist who managed to sideline Khrushchev and take the lead of the country? Or a man who provided the long-awaited stability? Perhaps he was a fun-loving hunter passionate about the hunt, or a man who adored collecting awards? What was the Brezhnev era: a time of stability and social guarantees—or rather a period of stagnation under the rule of an elderly party leader? Although the Brezhnev era ended relatively recently, we are already able to give it a historical assessment. Let’s try to figure out what Leonid Brezhnev was really like, and what consequences of his rule we still feel today.
