The novel "Captain Nevelskoy" is a work about the first Russian expedition to the Amur and Kamchatka, and about the outstanding role of the renowned Russian explorer G.I. Nevelskoy in the discovery and study of the Russian Far East. The book tells of the complex, dramatic history of Russian settlement at the mouth of the Amur River, and the early development of Primorye and Sakhalin. At the center of the novel is the figure of Captain β later Admiral β G.I. Nevelskoy: traveler and scholar, naval commander and diplomat, patriot of Russia and selfless defender of her interests.
