The Kaidash Family

A realistic social-domestic story by the Ukrainian writer Ivan Semenovich Nechuy-Levitsky, written in 1878. Using everyday life of the peasantry as material, the work reveals certain character traits of the Ukrainian people, their individualism, and their desire to live a separate, independent life. The work has been reprinted many times and translated into other languages.
