This edition includes 27 historical miniatures, sketches, and reflections on the past written by V. Pikulev at different periods of his work. The author himself compared these sketches to miniature portraits displayed in museum showcases. Just like the stories, these portraits characterized not only the personalities of their heroes, but also the entire era to which they belonged.
And of course, every historical epoch is inseparably linked with the people who created it—with their virtues and shortcomings, heroic and shameful manifestations of their characters.
