Description
The famous German writer, essayist, and Nobel Prize laureate in Literature Thomas Mann began his literary career with stories that later became part of a small collection “Little Mr. Friedemann,” published in 1898. A huge place in the writer’s work was occupied by his idols—Schopenhauer, Nietzsche, Wagner—and all the newest ideas that stirred European minds in the post-war period. But the greatest writer of modern times was, above all, a master of intellectual prose. He called Tolstoy and Dostoevsky his teachers. The main themes of Thomas Mann’s works were the foreboding of the collapse of the old order, the sense of a fateful approach of death, and the closeness of the otherworldly realm. His highly symbolic and ironic epic novels and novellas are known for their deep penetration into human psychology. The audio adaptation of the novella “The Confession of a Convict (Childhood of a Criminal)” did not break this rule.
