The worst curse among Chinese people is: «May you live in times of change!» If that’s so, Cyril Nikolaev has clearly been cursed by the entire Chinese nation. The burgher Nikolaev didn’t even manage to wriggle out of trouble with a club of “ether people” and deflect threats from his former relatives, when new troubles piled on. A revolt in the capital of the recently calm Russian state sweeps people up like a hurricane of leaves and carries them through smoke and fires toward a grand catastrophe. Tracks of armored vehicles thunder over ancient cobblestones; explosions roar at night and houses burn. Noblemen and service-bound boyars eagerly cut one another down, not shying away from anything, recruiting European mercenaries to their side and throwing their own troops into attack. And amid all this madness, Cyril spins like a squirrel in a wheel, trying to protect his loved ones and at the same time not get pulled into the squabbles between the boyars and the sovereign.
