Description
1978—the height of the “Cold War.” In pro-Western Pakistan, the construction of a new tank plant—one that could significantly shift the balance of power in the region—is coming to an end. In the USSR they decide to eliminate the facility at any cost and assign the task to a special KGB group commanded by Major Ivanytsky. But immediately after crossing the border, the unit runs into a meticulously prepared ambush: because of betrayal among the fighters, they are captured and sent to a secret prison. A chance for rescue appears when the prisoners stage a revolt and manage to hold onto a fortress tower.

In Moscow they learn about the uprising and send a special forces group led by Lieutenant Colonel Vyacheslav Bogdanov to help. In the empty desert it’s extremely difficult to find and extract comrades, but hardened professionals are ready for any turn of events.

This is a novel about intense service by fighters of a special KGB unit—from strict analysis and preparation of a classified operation to a direct clash with a cunning enemy anywhere in the world—a path only possible for people for whom honor, duty, and loyalty to their cause have a real price. The print run of A. Tamonikov’s books exceeds 10 million copies.
