Description
The story of Gavroche is an excerpt from the great novel Les Misérables by the French writer Victor Hugo. The events depicted in it relate to 1832, when the working people of Paris rose up against the rule of the bourgeoisie and royal power.

The streets of the huge old city were covered with barricades. Alongside the brave fighters, Gavroche fought as well. Abandoned to the mercy of fate, the child lived on the street and had to find his own food. He was clever, resourceful, cheerful, and often conquered hunger and hardship with a spirited little song. In the little ragged vagabond lived the great soul of the French people — one of the most cheerful and freedom-loving peoples in the world. When the uprising began in the city, Gavroche immediately understood which side the truth was on and joined the ranks of those who fought against the oppressors.
