The princes expelled Artyom from Ozery, but he became the ruler of the Ekhay kingdom across the river. In a brief war, he defeated the rebellious great houses that had refused to recognize his authority. Artyom received the dragon’s seal and sealed the rift from which demons’ servants emerged to tempt the mountaineers. This kept his kingdom safe from their raids for a time.
Several mountain tribes—who had never acknowledged the rule of the Ekhay king—took his reign in fear of an invasion, accepting it while preserving their freedoms. But a new trouble appeared: a band of pirates arrived along the coast. They joined forces with the mountain princes to attack the Principality of Ozery.
The gods split. Mara, the goddess of death, and Marse lon, her brother, sided with Artyom, who became a dragon. Ye khil, the goddess of death, and Il, the keeper of the rejected, united to fight the dragon. Narna, the eldest sister, goddess of balance, went over to the dragon-guardian. The world fell silent, awaiting great changes.
