This novella serves as both a continuation of the famous novel The Last Unicorn and the concluding movement of that cycle. "Two Hearts" is the story of nine-year-old Sooz, who tries to save her village from a griffin that has taken up residence in the local forest. The villagers had tolerated the predator's raids while it confined itself to goats and sheep, but after some time it came to human victims. When Sooz loses her best friend, she decides to seek out the king so that he may resolve the problem. Thus we are reunited with old acquaintances — King Lír, the Wizard Schmendrick, and Molly. The old King Lír personally leads the hunt for the griffin.
