1533. Henry VIII and his new wife Anne Boleyn have a daughter — Elizabeth. Some time later, Henry executes his wife on charges of adultery, and Elizabeth is left without a mother. Another year passes, and Henry finally has a son by his new wife — Edward. After his father’s death, Edward becomes king and brings his sister back to court, but soon afterward he dies, which becomes yet another great shock for Elizabeth.
The elder sister, Mary, ascends the throne. She does not trust Elizabeth and imprisons her in the Tower on suspicion of treason. At the same time, Robert Dudley is also there; Elizabeth has known him since early childhood. Although Robert is married, love flares up between the young people. Soon, under pressure from her husband, Mary releases Elizabeth from captivity. Five years after ascending the throne, Mary dies, and Elizabeth is told that she has become Queen of England.
