Children

First printed in the journal “Modern World,” 1910, issue 9, September, under the title “The Meeting,” with the subtitle “A Play,” and simultaneously as a separate book titled “Children,” with the subtitle “A Comedy in One Act,” published by I. P. Ladyzhnikov, Berlin (without an indication of the year of publication). The play was written by M. Gorky no later than the summer of 1910. In November 1910 M. Gorky wrote to M. M. Kotsiubynsky: “I am sending you ‘The Meeting’ as a keepsake—maybe, while reading, you will smile once” (A. M. Gorky Archive). From 1923 onward, the play was included in all collected works.
