Future Moscow
Empty avenues, office buildings, museums, and government institutions. Houses — like they’re displayed in a showcase; on the streets — impeccable order. That’s what any city on the planet looks like now. Only there are no people to be seen anywhere. No, humanity hasn’t perished and isn’t hiding. It simply has had its usual life radically changed: it has received everything it could possibly dream of, and has forgotten how to want anything else. Technological progress has hit the ceiling. People have built a new environment for themselves — perfect and completely convenient.
The novella’s heroes must remember what it means to be human, and come up with again what it’s worth continuing to live for.
