In an alternative reality today, in the state of Ordus—which unites different peoples—various religious beliefs and advanced science coexist peacefully. This time, detectives Bagatur Lobo and Bogdan Ouyantsov-Syu, who have finished investigating “The Tale of Igor’s Campaign,” work separately. Bogdan takes a leave and goes to Solovki to cleanse himself of sins through labor and prayer, thinking about his departed wife Jeanne—and even sleeping in a coffin. Bagatur, who stays on duty, tries to figure out the composition and method of making the popular “Fox’s Charms,” a remedy meant to improve male potency, on the request of Interpol. The investigation leads him to Solovki, where his fellow, Bogdan, becomes involved in mystical events involving foxes—werefoxes. Time races, events unfold fast, and the detectives, combining their efforts, uncover a terrifying secret about great love and betrayal.
