After meeting a respectable Leningrad colleague, an ordinary Soviet secondhand bookseller gets his hands on either an antique edition from a nonexistent city or an unknown novel by a universally known classic. He is asked only to resell the copies as quickly as possible, and to make sure that whoever buys them also resells them as quickly as possible…
